Hassia Packaging Acquired by an Italian Firm
Industria Macchine Automatiche (IMA), an Italian packaging machine manufacturer has taken over the German conglomerate OYSTAR Group, which is Hassia Packaging in India’s parent company.
Due to the takeover, the Hassia Packaging India brand has been renamed to IMA Dairy & Food Holding. IMA will develop and produce packaging machines for products including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, beverages, food, and dairy industries. The acquisition means IMA group’s turnover has seen a huge increase of over one billion euros.
Hassia Packaging offers integrated and customised solutions for flexible packaging, which can be used across a varied range of applications. The company offers high-speed automation for the packaging of products that include dairy, food, agrochemical, washing powders, hair oils, shampoo, and more.
In the Indian sub-continent, Hassia packaging has a very strong presence for packaging solutions, and 30% of its products are exported to international markets including Southeast Asia, Africa, and the SAARC countries. Several well-known brands use the services that the company offers including Danone, Kraft Foods, ITC, P&G, Abbot, Perfetti, and GSK.
Hassia Packaging India Aims to Increase its Exports Soon
The IMA group aims to transfer high-end technologies to Hassia India so that they can export products that can be manufactured locally. The CEO of the company said that they would prefer to focus on the Indian market compared to China as the local food sector companies offer a much bigger market.
The business expects that Hassia Packaging India will double its exports in the short term. On a year-to-year basis, the growth is expected to reach 20%. By 2017, the company is predicted to become an export-oriented organisation that has almost 50% of its profits coming from the export markets. The company already has many orders for the 2015 trading year, and it is expected to reach a growth level of 400% this year.
The company’s Managing Director K. Ravi said that the company has already achieved the total sales volume of the 2014 trading year in the first four months of 2015. He added that as the company starts getting better price realisation from exports, it will be able to subsidise prices for the Indian market.
Hassia Packaging India will see its presence strengthen across global packaging industries due to the acquisition. In addition to the anticipated business expansion due to demand in West Asia, the Middle East, and South Asian markets, the move will also facilitate the introduction of more modern technologies in Hassia, which will help it to achieve its future export goals.
