Packaging Problem Make Kraft Recall 36,000 Cheese Case Slices

Kraft Heinz Co. recalls 36,000 cases of cheese slices due to a packaging problem.

Quality Control

The company has mentioned that the present form of packaging that surrounds the Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurised cheese might cause a case of choking among consumers.

The Singles are separately wrapped in a slim packaging film, which may stick to the cheese slice even after the wrapper has been taken out. One can unintentionally consume the packaging film and suffer the risk of being choked.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, this spontaneous recall was notified by ten accusations including three confirmed reports of buyers being almost choked by the packaging film.

Kraft recalls those cheese Singles that were transported to distribution centres in the United States, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.

The Packaging Problem Set to be Addressed With this Voluntary Recall
As a step toward the safety of their customers, Kraft Heinz has decided to recall all their cheese slices weighing 3- and 4-pound belonging to the American and White American pasteurised cheese category.

Along with stating their decision to take back those 36,000 cases of cheese slices, the company has also clarified that no other variety of their products comes under the purview of the recalled products.

In a statement issued following the decision to recall, Kraft has said that it deeply regrets the packaging problems and apologises to all the customers it has disappointed.

The company has asked all its customers not to consume any of their products that come with packaging problems. Instead, they must return the product to the store from where they got it either to get an exchanged product or a complete refund.

It’s interesting to note that a few months back, Kraft Foods Group had another packaging problem concerning another spontaneous recall of approximately 242,000 ‘Cheese Dinner’ and ‘Kraft Macaroni’ cases.

As declared in the press release, the company stated that this recall was triggered by the fact that some dinner boxes might have had small pieces of metal in them. In that case, although no injuries were reported, the recall was commenced after Kraft obtained eight accusations about metal particles inside cases of ‘Cheese Dinner’ and ‘Kraft Macaroni’.

Commitment to Safer and More Sustainable Packaging
Because of the recent food recalls brought by packaging problems, the Kraft Heinz Company has been working hard to reduce its reliance on plastic packaging. As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, the company has set a goal to reduce its use of virgin plastic by 25 per cent by 2025.

Less Plastic
To achieve its objective of less plastic, Kraft Heinz is working on several fronts. First, the company is redesigning its packaging to use less plastic. Second, it is substituting other materials for plastic where possible. Finally, it is reducing its overall use of plastics through initiatives such as increased recycling and reuse. By adopting these changes, Kraft Heinz is significantly lessening its environmental impact.

Recyclable Packaging
In 2018, Kraft Heinz made a huge commitment to the environment. The manufacturer of processed foods declared that by 2025, it wanted all of its packaging to be recyclable, reused, or biodegradable.

Kraft Heinz teamed up with environmental consulting firm Lorax EPI to better determine how much of their packaging is genuinely recyclable, reusable, or biodegradable. Other food companies would need to follow the company’s lead because this was a significant step positively. This should result in reduced environmental waste overall.

Ketchup BottlesInnovative Ketchup Bottles
For generations, HEINZ has been synonymous with delicious ketchup and condiments. However, the company is now collaborating with Pulpex to design a paper-based, reusable, built from just wood pulp that is acquired sustainably.

This innovative bottle will help reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. The bottles made from wood pulp will completely dissolve, which means they won’t pollute landfills as they decompose. Because they are made from renewable resources, they will have a positive impact on climate change.

With its dedication to sustainability, HEINZ has taken another step forward with this new partnership. Hopefully, this innovative step will become successful.

Biodegradable Coffee Pods
There is no denying that single-use coffee pods have grown to be a serious environmental issue over the past decade. With billions of pods ending up in landfills each year, it’s clear that companies need to find a more sustainable way to enjoy a morning cup of joe.

Because of this, Maxwell House introduced a fully biodegradable coffee packaging pod in Canada in 2020. Made from plant-based materials, the entire pod – including the inner bag and outer carton – can be composted or recycled.

So there’s no longer a need to feel bad about enjoying your preferred coffee mix. Thanks to Maxwell House, you can enjoy your coffee knowing that you’re helping to make a difference in the environment.
