Performance Properties
M-529 is a unique oil additive which effectively prevents corrosion of engines during storage and at the same time decreases high temperature oxidation and wear of metal in working engines.
Carbon steel was tested in extreme humidity, with M-529 as an additive according to ASTM D-1748, corrosion resistance was provided for 480 hours.
Tested in Castrol Dieselall® SAE 10W30 and SAE 15W40 engine oils, M-529 dramatically improved protection of carbon steel and copper in a humid atmosphere (ASTM D 1748), and protected carbon steel according to the Ball Run Test in acidic conditions.
When tested in the Cummins High Temperature Corrosion Bench Test and Multimetal Cummins Bench Corrosion Test, M-529 caused no adverse affect on chemical and physical parameters of oil.
Field tests in a gasoline-powered V-8 engine confirmed that incorporating M-529 to engine oil reduces the wear of metals and preserves the oil from oxidation. Exxon Mobil 320 SHS with 4.5% M-529 L passes Load Stage 12 when tested according to ASTM D 5182, Evaluating the Scuffing Load Capacity of Oils (FZG).

Frequently Asked Questions
• What is the primary function of the Cortec M-529 series of products?
The Cortec M-529 series, which includes M-529, M-529 L, and M-529 SC, are patented oil-based corrosion inhibitors specifically designed to fortify lubricating oils and prevent corrosion in various metal components. They offer comprehensive protection during both continuous operation and intermittent use.
• How do these Cortec corrosion inhibitors provide protection against rust and corrosion?
These inhibitors work by forming a protective molecular barrier on both ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces. This advanced shield actively guards against rust, oxidation, and other corrosive elements, even in challenging environments where chlorides might be present.
• What types of lubricating oils are compatible with the Cortec M-529 series?
The Cortec M-529, M-529 L, and M-529 SC products are designed for broad compatibility. They seamlessly integrate with most types of mineral and synthetic oils, including common varieties like naphthenic, iso-paraffinic, and PAO (Polyalphaolefin) based oils.
• Are the Cortec M-529 series products environmentally friendly or free from hazardous chemicals?
Yes, these Cortec inhibitors are formulated with safety in mind. They do not contain hazardous barium, chromates, nitrites, or phosphate-based inhibitors, making them a more responsible choice for industrial applications.
• Does adding Cortec M-529 to oil affect its viscosity or pour point at low temperatures?

Understanding the Different Variants: M-529, M-529 L, and M-529 SC
• What is the core difference between the standard Cortec M-529 and M-529 L?
While both M-529 and M-529 L offer excellent corrosion protection, Cortec M-529 L includes an additional EP (Extreme Pressure) lubricity package. This makes M-529 L particularly beneficial for applications where extreme pressure lubrication is crucial, such as in gears and transmissions.
• What makes Cortec M-529 SC distinct from the other M-529 variants?
Cortec M-529 SC is a super-concentrated form of the corrosion inhibitor. This concentration allows for maximum protection with a lower dosage, offering enhanced efficiency and cost-effectiveness without compromising performance for your metal assets.
• What are the typical concentration recommendations for each variant: M-529, M-529 L, and M-529 SC?
For optimal protection in lubricating oil systems, it's recommended to add M-529 at a concentration of 2-5% by weight. For M-529 L, the recommendation is 3-6% by weight, and for the super-concentrated M-529 SC, you'll typically use 1.5-3.5% by weight. Always consult the product data sheet for precise guidelines.
• When would I choose Cortec M-529 L over the standard M-529?
You would typically choose Cortec M-529 L when your application involves components that experience high pressure and require enhanced lubrication, like heavy-duty gears, industrial transmissions, or other critical machinery where scuffing load capacity is a concern.
• Is M-529 SC less effective because it's used at a lower concentration?
No, M-529 SC is designed to be highly concentrated, meaning its effectiveness is maintained, or even enhanced, at lower dosages. This allows for excellent protection while optimizing usage and potentially reducing overall operational costs.
