Frequently Asked Questions
• What exactly are Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 Static Dissipative Film Bags designed to do?
These innovative film bags are specifically engineered to provide dual protection for sensitive items: they safeguard against both electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage and corrosion, making them a go-to choice for valuable electronics and metals.
• How do these bags offer protection against both static and corrosion simultaneously?
The EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags are crafted using advanced plastic technology combined with Cortec's renowned Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VpCI®). This unique blend means they actively dissipate static charges while the VpCI molecules create a protective layer on metal surfaces within the enclosed space, preventing rust and other forms of corrosion.
• Are these bags a replacement for traditional rust prevention methods like oils or desiccants?
Absolutely! One of the significant advantages of the Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags is that they completely replace the need for traditional rust preventatives such as messy oils or moisture-absorbing desiccants, streamlining your packaging process and eliminating additional cleanup steps.
• What's the main benefit for my products when using these VpCI-125 bags?
The main benefit is that your products are ready for immediate use upon arrival, without any need for cleaning or degreasing. This saves a tremendous amount of time and labor, ensuring efficiency in your supply chain or manufacturing process.
• Are the static dissipative properties of these bags affected by humidity levels?
No, that's one of their standout features! The static dissipative properties of the EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags are inherent and humidity-independent, meaning they reliably prevent static buildup regardless of the ambient moisture in the environment.
Relevant products you may want to consider:
• For what types of components or equipment are these bags typically recommended?
These bags are highly recommended for packaging a wide range of static-sensitive and corrosion-prone components, including integrated circuits, printed circuit boards (PCBs) and their various components, telecommunications equipment, and general electronic and electrical panels and enclosures.
• Can I use these bags for both short-term storage and long-distance shipping?
Yes, definitely. The Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags are suitable for both short-term storage and long-distance shipping. Their comprehensive protection helps ensure your items arrive in pristine condition, even when facing fluctuating temperatures and humidity during transit.
• Do these bags come in different forms or sizes to suit various packaging needs?
Yes, they are quite versatile. You can get Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 in custom-size bags, which can be heat-sealable or feature zipper closures. They are also available as film and tubing to accommodate a broader range of packaging requirements.
• Is there any special preparation needed for the items before placing them into these bags?
No special preparation is required. Unlike traditional rust preventatives, you don't need to clean or degrease your products before packaging them in Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags, which makes the process much more efficient and straightforward.
• How do the Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors work to protect the metals inside the bag?
Once sealed, the VpCI molecules within the film diffuse and vaporize into the enclosed air space. These molecules then condense on all exposed metal surfaces, creating a protective molecular layer that prevents corrosion without altering the physical or chemical properties of the electronic parts.
Relevant products you may want to consider:
• Can I use these bags for components that contain a mix of different metals?
Absolutely! The Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 film bags provide effective multi-metal protection, safeguarding both ferrous and non-ferrous metals commonly found in electronic assemblies.
• Are these bags effective in protecting recessed areas and void spaces within equipment?
Yes, the Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors are fantastic for this. They are designed to migrate and protect even hard-to-reach recessed areas and void spaces within the packaged components, ensuring comprehensive corrosion prevention throughout.
• What industry standards do Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags conform to for static dissipation?
These bags meet the stringent static decay and surface resistivity requirements outlined in MIL-PRF-81705 D, a key military specification for static dissipative packaging materials.
• How long can I expect these bags to provide effective corrosion protection?
When stored and used correctly, Cortec EcoSonic VpCI-125 bags have been tested and proven effective for up to three years of robust corrosion protection.
• What about ESD protection; how long does that last?
The static dissipative properties of these bags are designed to be effective for up to two years of ESD protection, ensuring consistent static control over a significant period.
