Cortec EcoShrink ® is a compostable film for shrink wrapping. It aims to make the "circular economy" a reality while also meeting conventional packaging requirements.

EcoShrink® is certified industrial biodegradable and intended for use in regular heat-shrinking applications. Users can shrink-wrap any size of components using EcoShrink. With this flexible and versatile packaging item, wrapping components are streamlined and the shrink film conforms to the shape of the object.

EcoShrink® can be discarded in an industrial composting setting after use. As a result, there is a reduction in the quantity of plastic packaging that would otherwise wind up in a landfill.* EcoShrink® is stable and can retain its integrity until properly discarded.

Frequently Asked Questions

• What exactly is Cortec EcoShrink Compostable Film, and why is it important for businesses today?

Cortec EcoShrink Compostable Film is a specially designed shrink wrap that offers a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic films. It's crucial for businesses because it helps them reduce their environmental impact by providing a packaging solution that's designed to break down in industrial composting facilities, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly practices and contributing to a "circular economy."

• How does EcoShrink contribute to a "circular economy" in packaging?

EcoShrink is thoughtfully designed with the circular economy in mind, meaning it considers the entire lifecycle of the product. By being made from certified commercially compostable resins and ultimately breaking down in industrial composting settings, it diverts plastic waste from landfills and reintroduces organic matter back into the system, promoting a more regenerative approach to packaging.

• What makes EcoShrink "compostable" rather than just "biodegradable" or "recyclable"?

While "biodegradable" can sometimes be a vague term, EcoShrink is specifically "compostable" and holds industrial certifications from TÜV Austria. This means it has met stringent standards (like EN 13432/ASTM D6400) for breaking down into natural elements within a defined timeframe in a commercial composting facility, leaving no harmful residues. Unlike typical recyclable plastics, it's not meant for conventional recycling streams but for specific composting processes.

• What are the key materials used in the composition of Cortec EcoShrink film?

Cortec EcoShrink Compostable Film is crafted from certified commercially compostable resins and notably contains 45% biopolymers, which are derived from renewable resources. This blend allows it to perform like traditional shrink wrap while offering a significantly more sustainable end-of-life solution.

• How does EcoShrink maintain its integrity during storage and use before composting?

EcoShrink is designed to be shelf and curb stable, meaning it will retain its performance characteristics and integrity during standard storage and usage conditions until it is properly disposed of in an industrial composting environment. You don't have to worry about it degrading prematurely on your shelves.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• Can Cortec EcoShrink be used with standard heat-shrinking equipment?

Absolutely! One of the great benefits of Cortec EcoShrink is that it's specifically engineered for use with a wide variety of standard heat-shrinking tools, making the transition from conventional shrink wrap quite seamless for most operations.

• What's the process for shrink-wrapping items with EcoShrink film?

It's quite straightforward. First, you'll want to measure your product or items to determine the appropriate length of film, making sure there's enough overlap for all the seams. Then, lay the film down in a clean, dry prepping area, arrange your products on it, and it's a good idea to pad out any sharp corners or edges to prevent tears. Finally, wrap your items, apply heat carefully, starting with the seams, and watch the film shrink to conform to the shape of your product.

• Is EcoShrink suitable for packaging both small and large components?

Yes, Cortec EcoShrink is quite versatile and can be used to shrink-wrap components of various sizes, from smaller individual items to larger industrial goods, providing a snug and protective fit for a wide range of products.

• In what ways does EcoShrink protect products during storage and transit?

EcoShrink acts as a protective layer, effectively shielding your packaged goods from common environmental factors like dirt, dust, and moisture during storage in a warehouse or while in transit. It also helps to keep multiple components neatly bundled, simplifying organization.

• What are the available dimensions and thicknesses for Cortec EcoShrink film?

Cortec EcoShrink is typically available in two common thicknesses: 2 mil (50 µm) and 4 mil (100 µm). You can also find it in single-wound or centerfold sheeting configurations, with widths commonly available at 18 inches (45.72 cm) or 36 inches (91.44 cm), making it adaptable for various packaging needs.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• What specific environmental certifications does Cortec EcoShrink hold?

Cortec EcoShrink is industrially certified by TÜV Austria, specifically with the "OK compost INDUSTRIAL" certificate. This confirms its compliance with the commercial composting standards, notably EN 13432 and ASTM D6400, which are globally recognized benchmarks for compostable materials.

By offering a compostable alternative, EcoShrink directly reduces the amount of conventional plastic shrink wrap that would otherwise end up in landfills, ultimately diminishing the burden of persistent plastic waste on our environment.

• Does EcoShrink contribute to a reduced carbon footprint for businesses?

Indeed, by opting for a compostable film like EcoShrink, businesses can significantly improve their overall environmental footprint. This is achieved by moving away from fossil-fuel-derived plastics and embracing a product that integrates with natural decomposition cycles, lessening the demand for new virgin plastics and reducing emissions associated with their production and disposal.

• Can EcoShrink be considered a responsible choice for companies looking to enhance their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?

Absolutely. Incorporating Cortec EcoShrink into a company's packaging strategy demonstrates a tangible commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, which is a key aspect of strong Corporate Social Responsibility. It shows customers and stakeholders that the business is actively seeking greener alternatives.

• How does EcoShrink align with global efforts to reduce plastic pollution?

EcoShrink plays a vital role in global efforts to combat plastic pollution by offering a viable and certified compostable solution. It helps to divert a significant volume of plastic waste from oceans, waterways, and landfills, contributing to a healthier planet.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• What are the recommended storage conditions for Cortec EcoShrink film to ensure optimal performance?

To keep your EcoShrink film in top condition, it's recommended to store it indoors, within its original packaging, and away from direct sunlight. The ideal temperature range for storage is between 40-100 °F (4-38 °C), which helps maintain its performance characteristics.

• Does EcoShrink have a limited shelf life before it needs to be used?

While the provided information does not specify an exact shelf life for EcoShrink, similar Cortec films suggest a shelf life of up to 24 months when stored correctly in original packaging indoors at ambient conditions. It's designed to remain stable until proper disposal is intended.

• Are there any particular precautions to take when handling EcoShrink rolls?

Like any film product, it's generally good practice to handle rolls of EcoShrink with care to prevent damage such as punctures or tears. Keeping it in its original packaging until ready for use also helps protect it from environmental factors.

• Can EcoShrink film be easily cut and prepared for packaging without special tools?

Yes, EcoShrink can be measured and cut to size without requiring specialized tools beyond what you'd typically use for packaging film. Its flexibility allows for straightforward handling during the preparation process.

• What precautions should be taken when heat-sealing EcoShrink to prevent issues?

When heat-sealing EcoShrink, it's important to apply heat carefully and evenly, starting with the seams. Overheating in one spot could potentially affect the film's performance or appearance, so a controlled and consistent application is key to achieving a good, tight shrink.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• Where can Cortec EcoShrink film be disposed of after use?

Cortec EcoShrink is designed to be disposed of in an industrial composting setting. It's crucial to verify and find out if a commercial composting facility that accepts this product is available and accessible in your local area.
