Cortec EcoShield® Barrier Coating for Paper
Cortec EcoShield® Barrier Coating for Paper
Call for quote
Cortec EcoShield® is a recyclable barrier coating and completely reusable, eliminating the need for traditional wax and polyethylene papers.
In addition, you can apply the coating on recycled and kraft paper to protect the surface from corrosion caused by contaminants. EcoShield® Barrier covering is a packaging industry pioneer because it combines a contaminant sealant with a repulpable covering for kraft paper. This material can also be used to coat corrugated box liners, providing a moisture-resistant barrier. EcoShield® Barrier Coatings also provides exceptional grease and oil resistance.
In the past, wax and polyethylene coatings were used to cover corrugated, sheets and porous paper, waterproofing or vapour-proofing these materials. The resulting paper product is an environmental hazard that cannot be recycled by conventional means.
Packaging & Storage of Barrier Coating for Paper
Packaging options are available in plastic pails (5 gallons or 19 L), liquid totes, bulk and metal drums (55 gallons or 208 L). Before using, mix thoroughly.
To guarantee optimum product functionality, store it in its original container, out of direct exposure to sunlight. If stored indoors, make sure the temperature is at 40-100 °F (4-38 °C).
Shelf life: 1year
Features
- Transmission Rate of water vapor (WVTR) is similar to poly-coated paper and far stronger than waxed paper in many ways.
- ASTM F 1249 specifies barrier qualities at the end of the line.
- Grease and oil resistance tested with the TAPPI T-559 KIT.
- Tested for repulpability with TAPPI T 240 om-12 (See Table 1).
- Developed in conformity with the FDA Code of Federal Regulations Title 21. • §176.170- Paper and paperboard in contact with watery and greasy meals.
- §176.180: Paperboard and paper in contact with dry food.
- UNI 11743:2019
- Aticelca 501:2019 System of Evaluation certified the product as recyclable (See Table 2).
Note: Papers coated with the product have superior physical features such as tear, burst, elongation, tensile strength, coefficient of friction, folding durability, and smoothness.
Typical Applications
EcoShield® Barrier Coating can be applied using most standard paper roll coaters, such as flex, air-knife, gravure, and reverse-roll. The drying temperature ranges from 180 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (82 to 93 degrees Celsius). The recommended masses (weight) are 8-11 pounds per ream (3000 square feet) (13-18 grams per square meter).

*Methods and Notes:
Pulp Suspensions using TAPPI T 240 om-12 Consistency (concentration)
Dry/semi-dry sheet pulp samples are not filtered or diluted. Consistency is assessed by equilibrating the total sample (sliced into specimens) in a tight sealed plastic bag for at least one hour, then removing the two samples and drying them for at least four hours.
