How long can parts be expected to remain free of corrosion after removal from VCI packaging?

When tests were performed with electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) they showed that after a metal panel was removed from a Valdamark VCI package that it took 2-4 hours for all the molecular layers of the VCI to disappear. 

The period before corrosion will occur on a part depends on many factors, including the cleanliness of the part and the environment around the part. For example, if the part is exposed to high humidity, pollutants, or wood, the VCI will protect the part for a shorter time than if the part were kept clean and dry in a temperature-controlled environment.
