Kellogg US Set to Get Patent for its Food Cup Packaging Assembly
Kellogg Packaging US has filed for an international patent in the US for food cup packaging that makes the process of stacking and storing food products simple.
In a recent report that the company filed with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation), it stated that it is a common practice to use cups to store food products such as yogurt, juice, cereal, and ice cream. However, in some cases, the packaging material used for these items covers the top and bottom of the product or covers either of them. Kellogg US claims that the food cup packaging in most cases has surfaces that are not able to be stacked.
The additional problems stated by the company are that food cup packages that cover the top or bottom of cups creates an unstable surface which makes the packaging unsuitable for stacking these products.
Kellogg US Expects to Revolutionise Food Cup Packaging
Kris Charles a company spokesperson for Kellogg US refused to comment on the matter of the patent as it is pending litigation. However, he claimed that the Food Cup Packaging Assembly product is expected to create a cup that has a first and second end on opposite sides. The product would have an interior between the first and second end that would be able to receive a food product. The expectation is that the packaging assembly will include a wrap that extends the first cup and a cap that has been selectively attached to the first cup at the first end to close that opening.
The new design of this product will allow cups to be stacked vertically adjacent by using the nesting engagement which will also help with their transportation of them. In addition to this once the item is purchased by a consumer, it can be stacked within the home to save space.
Food Cup Packaging – An Explanation
One of the most popular types of packaging in recent times is the food cup which has seen its demand increase rapidly with the growth of the take-out food industry. This type of takeaway packaging is normally made of paper or plastic and can be both reusable and disposable.
Paperboard cup packaging is a popular choice for holding both hot and cold beverages and is often used to carry soups, sauces, and other liquids. This type of packaging is durable and lightweight which makes it the perfect packaging for several different food products.
Food cups are generally used in the takeaway food industry for hot foods, leftovers, or snacks. The main advantage of this type of packaging is that it is cheaper to manufacture over materials such as glass or metal. Food cup packaging made from plastic or paper generally takes up less room and is easier to store and transport.
Food cups are found in both restaurants and supermarkets where pre-made food items such as cereals with milk, or yogurts with spoons, are created in this packaging for ease of consumption.
With the continued growth of the take-out food industry and the increased ease of ordering such food items, the demand for innovation of food packaging will continue. Businesses and consumers alike will be looking for products that make the consumption of food items easier and make the packaging easier to store if bulk numbers are required.
