Corrosion Protection Using VpCI® for a Heat Exchanger in Transit
Corrosion protection for equipment during transportation is not easy, especially under aggressive transit conditions.
However, using the appropriate corrosion protection products will certainly help you do away with corrosion on your equipment.
Check out this real-life example of how a company protected its heat exchanger from corrosion using VpCI products during transportation under aggressive conditions:
A heat exchanger in transit from Eurasia to Ecuador was to pass through harsh transportation conditions. In addition, the heat exchanger had to be moved several times, from a transporting truck to rail and, finally, to a cargo ship.
Protecting the heat exchanger from corrosion under extreme aggressive conditions was the priority. The company decided to use Cortec’s VpCI-377 – a water-based VpCI coating concentrate used for corrosion protection instead of oils/grease which can be quite messy.
VpCI®-377 contains a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor that activates, diffuses, and condenses an invisible molecular protection later on the surface of metal parts. In this case, the VpCI diffused and condensed on the surfaces of the heat exchanger.
The VpCI®-377 protected the heat exchanger from corrosion caused by hydro testing. The company additionally decided to supplement the VpCI®-377 with sheets of VpCI-132 vci foam, a nitrite-free static dissipative foam.
Sheets of VpCI®-137 foam were put on top of the heat exchanger’s piping. The company added a VpCI®-126 shrink film to mothball the entire heat exchanger to protect it from corrosion during transport.
Results for Using Cortec’s VpCI® for Corrosion Protection
The results for using VpCI®-377, VpCI®-137 foam, and VpCI-126 blue shrink film were outstanding. The products from Cortec® Corporation protected the heat exchanger from corrosion completely.
It’s, therefore, logical to conclude that you can enhance corrosion protection for any asset regardless of its size using the appropriate VpCI® products.
